WHO: BBQ lovers of all ages will converge upon Hudson, Ohio to raise money for sports booster club.
WHAT: The second annual Hudson Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival, a benefit for the Hudson Athletic Booster Club.  Admission is $4 in advance and $5 at the door.  Food and beverage tickets may be purchased on site for $1 each.
WHEN: Saturday, June 18, 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. & Sunday, June 19, 12:00 – 6:00 p.m.
WHERE: 101 Village Way, behind the Hudson Library and Historical Society in the First & Main Shopping District
WHY:
Summit Charitable Events Foundation, producer of the Hudson Wine Festival, has partnered with the Hudson Athletic Booster Club to hold the second annual Hudson Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival on June 18 & 19, 2011.

Saturday – 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Amateur teams compete in the Backyard BBQ competition for best BBQ chicken.  Winners will be announced at 2 p.m.  Celebrity judges include Mayor William Currin, Judy Stringer from Scriptype Publishing and Chuck Collins of 1590 AM/WAKR.

Saturday 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. & Sunday 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.: Professional food vendors including Heather’s Heat & Flavor, Old Carolina BBQ, Rav’s Creekside, Smokin T’s BBQ and Totally Cooked BBQ will feature a variety of barbeque and other grilled items as they compete for the “People’s Choice Award” for best chicken and ribs. The “Wet Your Whistle” Tent will feature Labatt’s Light, Great Lakes Dortmunder, Magic Hat #9 and Sam Adams Summer Ale as well as bottled water and Pepsi products for purchase.  Hershey’s of Hudson will be on site with ice cream treats as well as Paradise Lemonade and a variety of exhibitors will be showcasing their products and services.

Blues Music: Area blues bands will provide more than 15 hours of musical entertainment:

Kristine Jackson Blues – 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Frankie Starr Band – 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Sunday, June 19
Bongo Joe & Little Steve-O – 12:00 p.m.  - 2:45 p.m.
Blue Lunch – 3:45 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Seminars: Jeff Conn from Suncrest Gardens will discuss tips on building your own backyard bbq and Dante D’Avello from Totally Cooked BBQ will perform live cooking demonstrations daily.

PARKING / ROAD CLOSURES:

(March 15, 2011) – Summit Charitable Events Foundation (SCEF), organizer of the Hudson Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival being, is now accepting team applications for the amateur Backyard BBQ competition portion of the Festival.  Teams can consist of four members and entry is open to area businesses, charitable organizations, families or other groups.

The entry fee is $125 per team and includes a Weber kettle grill, utensils and a meat thermometer, all of which the team may keep after the Festival.  Each team will be provided with charcoal and a quartered chicken to barbeque on site in the competition.  Teams provide their own secret spices and sauces to concoct their winning recipe as they compete for trophies, prizes and bragging rights for “Best Backyard BBQ”.

A panel of judges will critique the entries at during assigned time slots and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place based on presentation, appearance and taste.

The Hudson Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival will be open to the public Saturday, June 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 19 from Noon to 6:00 p.m.  Held along Village Way in the First & Main Shopping District, guests will enjoy barbeque food and related offerings, domestic and craft beer, as well as musical entertainment, exhibitors and the Kids Fun Zone, courtesy of Hattie Larlham.  Admission to the Hudson Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival is $4 in advance and $5 at the door and net proceeds benefit the Hudson Athletic Booster Club.

Second Annual Hudson Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival Expands

Hudson, Ohio (February 7, 2011) – The second annual Hudson Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival organized by Summit Charitable Events Foundation(SCEF) will be held Saturday June 18 and Sunday June 19, 2011 along Village Way in the First & Main Shopping District.

“Due to the excellent response last year and at the request of our vendors and guests we have added a second day to this year’s Festival” comments Brian Hurtt, Event Producer. “With the added hours we are scheduling more great blues bands and additional activities including barbeque cooking demonstrations and seminars.”

The Festival will kick off on Saturday with a Backyard BBQ Competition where amateur teams compete for trophies, prizes and the bragging rights for “Best Backyard BBQ” as judged by a celebrity panel. Throughout the entire Festival professional barbeque vendors will offer different types of barbeque for purchase as they compete for the “People’s Choice Award” for best barbeque. The “Wet your Whistle Tent” will sell craft and domestic beer as well as soft drinks. While five different bands from northeast Ohio are scheduled to perform 15 hours of great blues music. Retail vendors will be located throughout the Festival grounds offering barbeque products and services.

Admission to the Festival is $5 and children under 18 accompanied by an adult are FREE.

Hudson, Ohio (February 12, 2010) – Summit Charitable Events Foundation (SCEF), organizer of the Hudson Wine Festival, is pleased to announce the first annual Hudson Blues & BBQ Festival to be held Saturday, June 19, 2010 on the First & Main green.

“We think the day before Father’s Day is the perfect launch date for this family oriented event,” comments Butch Bartlett, President of SCEF, “and we are excited to announce that we have selected the Hudson Athletic Booster Club to benefit from the net proceeds of
the inaugural event.”

General admission to the Hudson Blues & BBQ Festival will be free and the festival will feature three major components:

  • A Family Backyard BBQ Competition where family teams compete for “Best Family BBQ” trophy and prizes as judged by a celebrity panel.
  • Food vendors will barbeque on site as they compete for prizes valued at over $3,000 including the $1500 “Top Hawg People’s Choice Award” for best ribs. Ribs will be available for sampling at a minimal cost to the public who will vote to determine the winner.
  • 6 hours of great Blues music performed by bands from Northeast Ohio.

Retail vendors will be located throughout the event site and will offer a variety of barbeque products and community services. Other activities are being planned in cooperation with Hudson Athletic Booster Club.
